The gap between the two rows is small: about an inch and a half of headroom and two inches of legroom. In practice that means the back seat is not the penalty box it can be in this class, and a rear-facing child seat fits without the front passenger folding themselves in half.

The roof rails are the quiet reason to step up from the LS. They arrive on the LT and every trim above it, and they turn a cargo box, a bike tray or a kayak carrier into a bolt-on purchase rather than an aftermarket project. If gear regularly travels with you, that step is worth more than any styling difference further up the range.

Family-Focused Features

The cabin has the things that make a car with children in it workable: four one-touch power windows, heated mirrors, a rear vision camera as standard on every trim, and LATCH anchors rated Acceptable by the IIHS.

Rear-seat climate is served from the front, which is normal for the class, and there are USB connections for devices in the second row. A remote starter arrives with the LT, which on a February morning means the cabin is warm before anyone is buckled in. The 25.3 cubic feet is genuinely enough for a full car of people and their day gear, which is the configuration most families use most of the time.

An evening at FirstEnergy Stadium. Folding chairs, a cooler, blankets and a bag of kit go in behind the seats, and the hands-free liftgate is worth having when both arms are full in a car park.
